Lumumba – 100 Years after

Tomorrow marks 100 years since Patrice Lumumba was born. July 2nd, 1925. He didn’t live long, but what he gave us is something that still matters today. He gave his voice, his fight, and his life for Congo. For our dignity. For our independence.

On June 30th, 1960, Congo became independent. And for that, we are thankful. Because without Lumumba, it might not have happened the way it did. He stood up and spoke for all of us. He reminded the world that we are not slaves. That our land, our people, and our future belong to us.

He faced colonizers without fear. He didn’t stay silent to protect himself. He exposed the truth, even if it cost him everything. And that’s exactly what happened. They saw him as a threat. They killed him. But even now, 100 years after his birth, they didn’t win. His ideas are still alive. His fire still burn in us.

To me, Lumumba is more than a name. He’s proof that real leaders exist. That we come from strength. That we were never meant to be broken or controlled. He inspires us to speak up, to believe in our country, and to fight for what’s right

We’re thankful for independence. But we know that true freedom is still a work in progress. Lumumba didn’t get to see the Congo he dreamed of. But maybe we will. If we don’t forget. If we keep building. If we carry his dream the way it deserves to be carried.

He may be gone, but we’re still here. And the story isn’t over.
