Labour Day, a day of celebrations and lamentations

Comrades, peasants, workers and toilers of this nation!

As we mark Labour Day, we do more than celebrate the dignity of work we affirm a historic struggle. This day, born from the blood, sweat and sacrifice of workers across the world, stands as a living reminder that the challenges of exploitation and oppression by labour today are not accidental, they are planned , built and supported by the capitalist system through policy and budgeting.

Though the so called workers rights that exist claim to protect the workers interests, they have done little to amplifier the workers’ voices given the fact that their leadership and representation is not composed of the workers them selves, the workers unions for example are head by the elites who work on behalf of the capitalists and their compradors. the little achievements that have been achieved throughout the years of struggle, they were won through organised resistance, demonstrations, strikes against exploitation and the struggle should continue.

The workers and peasants are the lifeblood of the economy, but their daily demands and needs have been given less attention. The high unemployment rate mostly in global south countries gives monopoly capitalist a great opportunity to access cheap labour , and creating a reserve force, this makes the continuity of the exploitation cycle hence,

The Communist League of Uganda takes this opportunity to inform the workers in industries, streets, farms and fields that, Labour Day is not merely ceremonial. It is a day of political clarity. It calls upon the working class to recognize itself not only as a productive force, but as a revolutionary one. Workers are the backbone of society and the life blood of the economy ,the creators of wealth, the economy owes them much of their surplus value that is always swindled by greedy the capitalists.

Mostly, under capitalist arrangements, they remain dispossessed of the full fruits of their labour. This contradiction remains at the heart of class struggle and always provides a basis for sparking the revolutionary struggles and with time of intensive struggle the product forces shall always triumph, so we the Communist League call upon all the oppressed workers and peasants to not loose hope, since the productive force will always grow bigger and stronger than their oppressors, like how the same case applies in Uganda.

In Uganda, the working class faces unique historical and material conditions shaped by colonial legacy, neo-colonial economic pressures, and uneven development. Yet the fundamental reality remains unchanged: labour produces value, and capital extracts it. The task before Ugandan workers is therefore not only to demand better wages or conditions, but to develop a deeper consciousness of their collective power and to do this they need a driving force that is active and strong enough to accomplish this task with out betraying then, and that is non rather than the Communist League.

Marxism–Leninism teaches us that true emancipation cannot be achieved through isolated reforms alone. It requires collectivity, organization, discipline, and a clear ideological direction. Trade unions, cooperatives, and workers’ movements must evolve beyond defensive struggles and become instruments of transformation and custodians of workers’ rights and empowerement, capable of challenging the structures that perpetuate inequality and exploitation on behalf of the workers.

Labour Day must therefore be reclaimed as a day of unity and resolve. A day to strengthen solidarity between urban and rural workers, between formal and informal sectors, and across all lines that divide the working class, It is also a moment to reaffirm the importance of ideological education, so that workers understand not only their conditions, but the system that produces them , not only their rights but also how to organise, resist and fight for them.

Let this day inspire renewed commitment: to organize and resist, to educate and struggle. For it is only through consciousness and collectivism that the working people of Uganda can move toward a socialist society where labour is no longer exploited, but liberated, where labour produces the out put and fully enjoys the fruits of their sweats, where production serves human need, not private profit.

The future belongs to the workers. The path forward is struggle, let the struggle be activated and continue until all workers and peasants are liberated ideologically, economically and politically.

Revolutionary Labour Day to workers of all countries.

Workers of all countries unite!
