Speech by the General Secretary of the CLU on the WAP Conference in Nairobi (10th May 2026)

Thank you so much, Comrades!

First and foremost, I will surround my submission around the worst evil which is Imperialism and France’s aggression in the Sahel region and all out Africa. In the sense imperialism itself is the worst evil, “You cannot milk a Cow without giving it grass” and that’s the face of imperialism in summary.

Kwame Nkrumah stated that Neo Colonialism is the last stage of imperialism. He argued that while direct colonialism was ending, Western powers are maintaining control through economic manipulation, financial dependence, and, sometimes, military force. What does this elaborate, that colonialism is actually indeed still alive? Africa only received independence of flags and presidents, but in actual sense is still under colonialism, and that is Neo Colonialism.

Independence is where there is independent decision making. The major aspect that would elaborate independence is sovereignty. Sovereignty is where one has full independent decision making, policy making, economic control and so on, but in Africa today we see that the Imperialist powers have so much interest and not only interest but full presence in the Global South, that is decision making, exploitation and monopoly over everything, it’s only with the advancement and awareness of anti-imperialism that this sovereignty and proper independence at large can be achieved.

The Imperialist tendencies of the French in West Africa forced them to rise up against this exploitation, this expresses that the forces of anti-imperialism are awake.

Firstly, the CFA Franc System. I went ahead and found out the original meaning of CFA from way back, and it’s Colonies Françaises d’Afrique meaning (French Colonies of Africa), a system where West African states use French currencies, and from the meaning I want to say this here loud and clear, France! “We are not your Colonies!” This system is a neo-colonial tool that limits economic and monetary sovereignty, as I had stated earlier there isn’t any sovereignty in Africa.

Secondly, West Africa is a resource rich region, rich with gold (Ghana, formely known as the Gold Coast, Burkina Faso, Guinea) diamonds (Guinea, Sierra Leone) and so many other minerals iron ore, uranium, so the France doesn’t want to see an African country with all these resources, she wants them all to herself, while impoverishing the masses.

Thirdly, France protected her acts of having military bases in the Sahel region claiming to be combating terrorism in the region, but of recent, for those who have been following the events, a mob of the masses man handled and killed several french troops or say militias who were actually sidelining with the terrorists in the region, what does this elaborate, that they are the same people hiding under one mask, it is the French planting some of those terrorist groups in the region in order to create instability.

Down with Imperialism Down!

Let me take this opportunity to back up West Africa for resisting this Neo Colonialism.

Now let’s come to East Africa. Now the first question would be: What are France interests in Kenya? In 2025 there was a Defence Cooperation Agreement between Kenya and France, now depending on the recent developments in the Sahel region. We see that France established some military bases in the region. Now when you weigh with the agreements and pacts and dealings with Kenya at the time, you can just tell that the difference is the similarity: France wants to establish military bases in Kenya, it wants to take charge of decision making in Kenya, it wants to exploit the resources and labour in Kenya. In simple terms: It wants to rape Kenya, and take away it’s sovereignty, because with the comprador rule in Kenya, Kenya is still not sovereign. Now this is the problem, and it persists it roots from our incompetent, selfish and corrupt leaders interested in serving their interests.

The Anti-Imperialist Platform united with the socialist and progressive forces need to rise, resist and reject this political humiliation orchestrated by the French imperialists.

The case of Uganda isn’t that much different. In Uganda oil was discovered in the Albertine region that’s around Lake Albert. Immediately the government signed dealings with French Multi National Corporations like Total Energies, to handle the whole project of the EACOP, and now people are being evicted from their land, just to pave way for the pipeline. Old grandmothers have lost their land, their small houses and farms, and at the end of the day the project is being manned by a foreign multi-national corporation. For the masses, the only thing that they know is that there is oil in Uganda, it’s being extracted, by who, they don’t even know, and when these dealings are made with the government, just put it at mind that the resources have already been taken, fuel prices are just hiking, yet they told us that there are fuel reserves, where are they now, our states are being sold off to the Imperialists by own leaders.

Secondly, comrades, we do not only see this imperialist powers present in Africa, but in the also in the rest of the Global South. We see Imperialist aggression in West Asia, East Asia and South America.

The US has provided over billions in military aid to Israel since October 2023, used to level entire residential blocks in Gaza. Over 35,000 Palestinians have been killed, hospitals systematically destroyed, and millions of people starved. These are Netanyahu’s unquestioned genocidal actions, the US and Israel have repeatedly prepared open strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, threatening Iran’s sovereignty, let it be noted Comrades, that Iran has a duty to protect it’s Sovereignty by fighting back, this is a major trigger towards World War III. The Capture of Nicholas Maduro and Cilia Flores undermines Venezuela’s sovereignty, the US are held to break Venezuela’s resistance to US oil companies. Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves on Earth. The goal is to install a puppet regime that hands over state oil companies to the US Imperialist government.

The US-led NATO alliance has poured hundreds of billions into arming Ukraine against Russia. While claiming to defend “democracy,” the real goal is to weaken Russia as a rival to US hegemony.

Comrades, the same logic of dehumanization of a colonized people, in these Independent states, theft of land in Gaza and use of military force to crush resistance as applicable to Africa, Africa’s borders and people are next now that we see the US, UK and France present in several African regions, the Anti Imperialist Forces need to unite and resist these Imperialist aggression tendencies.
